Neuromatch Academy: Teaching Computational Neuroscience with Global Accessibility
نویسندگان
چکیده
Neuromatch Academy (NMA) designed and ran a fully online 3-week Computational Neuroscience Summer School for 1757 students with 191 teaching assistants (TAs) working in virtual inverted (or flipped) classrooms on small group projects. Fourteen languages, active community management, low cost allowed an unprecedented level of inclusivity universal accessibility.

Taking ‘computational neuroscience’ to denote theoretical neuroscience, I describe accounts of representation, neural computation, and cognitive function consistent with recent advances in this field. During this discussion I provide an overview of neural coding and survey its possible implications for more traditional theories of the meaning of mental representations. Subsequently, I describe ...
متن کاملComputational neuroscience.
The ultimate aim of computational neuroscience is to explain how electrical and chemical signals are used in the brain to represent and process information. This goal is not new, but much has changed in the last decade. More is known now about the brain because of advances in neuroscience, more computing power is available for performing realistic simulations of neural systems, and new insights...
